New Orleans Child Support Modifications

Can an order for child support be modified at a later time? Louisiana Law allows child support obligations to be modified to increase or decrease future child support payments in limited circumstances. Louisiana Civil Code Article 142 provides, “An award of child support may be modified if the circumstances of the child or of either parent materially change, and must be terminated on proof that support has become unnecessary.” Modification of a child support award usually requires judicial action, therefore, it is important to contact an attorney if you believe a material change has occurred that warrants a modification of child support.
